Infraserv Logistics offers train service between the Rhine-Main Region and Rotterdam
Infraserv Logistics GmbH has chosen a special way to ring in transport logistic, the world’s largest logistics fair in Munich: unveiling a new cargo link between the Rhine-Main Region and the Rotterdam port that offers real time savings for freight forwarders. Through Contargo GmbH, the logistics provider now offers freight rail service between Industriepark Höchst and the Dutch port city of Rotterdam three times a week.
Thanks to the service, freight forwarders can now transport a wide variety of goods from Frankfurt to Rotterdam in ten short hours. “Road service just can’t compete,” said Michael Reck, Plant Manager Industrial Rail Services at Infraserv Logistics. Contargo uses an existing rail service between the North Sea port city and Germersheim, a town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The trains will now be taking a slightly modified route so Infraserv Logistics can take an average of eleven container freight cars and transport them to the trimodal port at Industriepark Höchst. “The cars arrive from Rotterdam on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays,” reported Reck. They are loaded and unloaded at Industriepark Höchst between 7 am and 5 pm before being re-attached to the train heading to the North Sea coast. “The containers are then transported to the Rotterdam seaport and river port overnight,” explained the plant manager.
The new service will be a boon for freight forwarders who want to transport cargo between the Rhine-Main Region and the Western ports on the North Sea coast as quickly as possible. What makes the train service particularly attractive is the fact that it is unaffected by driving periods, rest periods or traffic. Contargo GmbH can accept up to 1,400 tons of cargo capacity per train. All types of freight can be transported, including dangerous goods. “This is a true end-to-end service for customers,” emphasized Reck. He added that Contargo may increase the service from three to four transports a week if demand is strong enough.
Infraserv Logistics GmbH provides value-added logistics services for the chemical, pharmaceutical and process industries at five locations in Germany. Its core business is the safe storage and flexible handling and transportation of cargo, including hazardous substances, dangerous goods, active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished drugs. Infraserv Logistics also provides services in distribution and dangerous goods management, order processing, customs clearing and GMP and dangerous goods training and consulting.
